Yesterday there was an uproar in the polity after it was discovered that President Buhari's letter to the senate regarding his medical trip to the UK, did not indicate that Vice President Yemi Osinbajo would assume the office of an acting president. Rather the letter said he would be coordinating the activities of government". Senator Mao Ohuabunwa at the senate plenary yesterday, frowned at this, stating that the constitution only recognises an acting president and not someone who coordinates the activities of government in the absence of a president. (Read here) Lending his voice to condemn this, former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode via his Facebook page said any attempt not to give Osinbajo power as an acting president will be resisted. President Buhari handed over to me- Osinbajo clarifies

Acting President Yemi Osinbajo last night via his twitter handle, addressed the speculations making the rounds that President Buhari did not properly hand over power to him. Responding to a twitter user who asked why President Buhari did not hand over the affiars of the country to him, Osinbajo said President Buhari did transfer power to him and that he had sent a letter to the  Senate in compliance with S.145 (1) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended). That section of the constitution reads: “Whenever the President transmits to the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives a written declaration that he is proceeding on vacation or that he is otherwise unable to discharge the functions of his office, until he transmits to them a written declaration to the contrary such functions shall be discharged by the Vice-President as Acting President.” There have been an uproar over the non-reference of Osinbajo as acting president in the letter President B

Trump calls out 'Cryin' Chuck Schumer' after firing FBI Director James Comey

Hours after US President Donald Trump fired FBI Director James Comey, he took shots at Senate Minority Leader, Chuck Schumer (Democrat) on Tuesday night. He tweeted: "Cryin' Chuck Schumer stated recently, 'I do not have confidence in him (James Comey) any longer." Then acts so indignant.  #draintheswamp," He made this tweet in reference to Chuck Schumer" crying in the days following Trump's executive order on immigration and refugees, as lawmakers almost universally slammed the president's directive to ban travel to the US from a handful of majority-Muslim nations. Schumer shed tears during a press conference on the matter. Schumer during the FBI investigation into Hillary Clinton's email scandal, said he doesn't have confidence in James Comey's abilities to conduct a fair investigation.

'Beware of scammers, we are not recruiting' - NNPC warns Nigerians

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC)  has called on the attention of the general public to beware of any recruitment announcement or invitation for interviews as its organization is not employing at the moment. The warning to the general public comes after fake recruitments scams have been hovering around all social media platforms this year. In a statement by its Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division, Mr. Ndu Ughamadu,  on Friday , the NNPC said: 'We are constrained to announce, once again, that NNPC is not recruiting at the moment. 'Members of the public are, therefore, advised to disregard any vacancy announcement on any online or social media platform as they are the handiwork of fraudsters intent on fleecing innocent Nigerians.' Some abducted Chibok girls refused to be freed -Negotiator

Zannah Mustapha, a lawyer and negotiator, who was part of the team that facilitated the release of 82 of the Chibok schoolgirls abducted three years ago by Boko Haram,  on Monday , told Thomson Reuters Foundation that some of the girls refused to be freed. Mustapha,57, said some of the abducted girls refused to go home, fuelling fears that they have been radicalized by the jihadists, and may feel afraid, ashamed or even too powerful to return to their old lives. “Some girls refused to return … I have never talked to one of the girls about their reasons," said Mr. Mustapha, who acted as an intermediary in the latest negotiations between the Nigerian government and Boko Haram. "As a mediator, it is not part of my mandate to force them (to return home)," he told the Thomson Reuters Foundation in the capital Abuja. The return of the 82 girls  on Saturday  marked the second group release of the Chibok girls by Boko Haram – with both deals brokered by Switzerland

Photos: Over 100 injured in gas explosion in Ghana

Over 100 people are being treated at Takoradi Port Hospital following two gas explosions that went off Tuesday morning at the Sekondi-Takoradi road, the oil hub of Ghana. According to Citi FM, eyewitnesses and officials from the Ghana National Fire Service, said the explosion occurred “at about 7: 10 Tuesday morning when a gas tanker discharging gas to another tanker exploded before the second went off around the Total filling station on the main Takoradi Highway. The injured included five firefighters among several others who were trying to put off the fire. The exact cause of the explosion is yet unknown.

Photos: Police declares 200L student of Ekiti State University missing

The Ekiti State Police Command has declared a 200 level student of the Department of Theatre and Media, Ekiti State University (EKSU), Miss Adefunke Adewodun missing.  It was gathered that Adefunke arrived her hostel one  Monday  morning, picked some personal effects and left and had not returned since then. Her mother, Mrs Rosaline Adewodun recalled that she saw Adefunke last on Sunday, 23 April 2017 when she left Ondo after the first semester break, noting that efforts to trace her since then had proved fruitless. The Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Alberto Adeyemi, who confirmed the development, said that Adefunke was seen last when she returned to her hostel after her first semester break. He said efforts had begun to unravel the whereabouts of the missing girl. “It would be improper to say particularly what has happened to the girl. It is true the lady (Adefunke) is missing.
