Stephanie Okereke Insists She’s Innocent As She Faces N100m Copyright Lawsuit

​Nollywood actress, Stephanie Okereke, has maintained that she is innocent as she faces a N100m lawsuit. Author, Daniella Madudu is suing Stephanie for alleged copyright infringement of her book titled: “Behind Her Veil.” Madudu had claimed that major parts of her book were lifted and used without any form of acknowledgement to her in Stephanie Okereke’s movie – “Dry” She said that she gave the manuscripts of the book to one of her friends, Joy Ndidi, who later became Stephanie’s Personal Assistant, to edit; only for her to see major excerpts of her book revealed in Stephanie Okereke Linus’ movie, Dry. But the actress insists that her movie had been registered with the National Copyright Commission since 2012, while the book was not officially published until 2014. The actress also stated that the said book has never been registered with the NCC till date. She added that she shot her movie, ‘DRY ‘ in a bid to lend her voice to the ‘child not bride’ campaign. Chimamanda Adichie becomes first Nigerian to receive the Mary McCarthy award in New York

Nigerian author and feminist Chimamanda Adichie has been awarded the revered Mary McCarthy Award for her work as a writer and prominent public awareness on social issues.  She became the first Nigerian to receive the prestigious award at an event that held at Bard College, New York recently. The McCarthy award which is named after famous novelist Mary McCarthy who taught at Bard College for a year, is given in acknowledgement of engagement in the public sphere by an intellectual, artist, or writer. Some other notable recipients of the award are Margaret Atwood (the author of The Handmaid’s Tale), Zadie Smith, Mona Simpson, and Susan Sontag. Kidnapper Evans cries uncontrollably as he is placed in cell with 'common poor criminals''

Suspected kidnap kingpin Chukwudemeje George Onwuamadike alias Evans is not finding it funny in police custody. He is weeping that he is being held among “common poor criminals”, The Nation is reporting. . The kingpin, who was arrested on Saturday at his 3, Fred Shoboyede Street, Magodo, Lagos home, is being kept in a maximum security cell. It was gathered that Evans broke down yesterday, lamenting the state of the police cell. . A source said he lamented that after making billions, owning gold, diamond and living like a king, he finally ended up in a cell with poor suspects. It was gathered that he told his interrogators he has two other detention camps in Lagos. He was also said to have confessed that he started off as an armed robber in Sokoto State.
