Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike accompanied by his wife, Justice Eberechi Suzzette Nyesom-Wike  on Wednesday  visited the popular Creek Road Market in Port Harcourt where they made purchases amid cheers by traders and market women.  The Governor and his wife arrived the market in a bus and walked through different parts of the market where they negotiated and paid for wares of interest. The governor and his wife bought cooking oil, beads, wrappers and household cooking items. As the governor and his wife paid for items purchased , they joked with the traders , assuring them that his administration will always work to promote their welfare and interest. After inspecting the Woji Akpajo Bridge, they proceeded to the Second Nkpogu Bridge where the contractors have completed work and are currently engaged in piling work by the bridge side . President Buhari has re-nominated 82 year old Justice Sylvanus Nsofor fom Imo state, to the senate for screening and possible confirmation as a non-career ambassador. Nsofor was earlier rejected by the senate in March for looking too fragile and not been able to answer the questions asked of him when he appeared before the senate committee on Foreign affairs. Justice Sylvanus Adiewere Nsofor who retired as a Justice of Court of Appeal in March 2005 after clocking the mandatory retirement age of 70, was among the 47 names forwaaded to the senate for confirmation by President Buhari earlier this year. Only 45 of them were confirmed by the senate. Justice Nsofor and another nominee, Jacob Adegoke from Ondo state were rejected by the senate for not answering their questions properly.

625 members of staff of Sterling bank have lost their jobs as the management of the bank have approved the termination of their appointment. The affected workers had their sack letters handed over to them last friday April 21st. The reason for the sack ranged from poor performance, right sizing and disciplinary issues.

 Federal officers from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) arrested 95 criminal aliens including a Nigerian national arrested throughout southeast Texas during a five-day enforcement action, which ended Friday, April 21. The operation began April 17 and Houston ERO officers made arrests in the following Texas counties: Brazoria (7), Ft. Bend (2), Galveston (4), Harris (59), Liberty (3), Matagorda (4), Montgomery (13), and Wharton (3). According to ICE and ERO officers, of those arrested, 87 were men and eight were women. All the foreign nationals targeted during this enforcement action had prior criminal convictions. The majority of those arrested - 82 of the 95 - had criminal histories that included convictions for the following crimes: homicide, aggravated assault, assault, burglary of a vehicle, child abuse, domestic violence, cocaine possession, fraud, driving under the influence, drug trafficking, felony marijuana pos...

Former Minister of Education Babalola Borishade has died. He died yesterday April 26th in a hospital in London after battling a lung and heart disease. He was 71. Borishade served as a Nigerian Minister from 1999 till 2011 in different capacities, including Minister of State, Power and Steel. May his soul rest in peace, amen.

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has said he will not stop being respectful to the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, regardless of what may have happened at a social function they both attended recently. According to him, he wasn't bothered by Oba Akiolu’s action or inaction and still holds him in high esteem. Adding that he is committed to ensuring unity among traditional rulers in the land. Oba Ogunwusi made this known through the Director of Media and Public Affairs, Ooni’s Palace on Wednesday. Oba Ogunwusi said: “Nobody should castigate anybody” for doing what he did because of the position he holds and because of his age… Ooni would not stop to accord his colleagues and every category of people the respect they deserve.
