Former Taraba state governor, Dambaba Suntai, has died. According to Sahara Reporters, he died at his home where he had been undergoing rehabilitation for brain injuries arising from the plane crash he was involved in in 2012. A former commissioner of information in the state, Emmanuel Bello has confirmed news of his demise. The world’s first Automated Teller Machine (ATM) on Tuesday June 27, 2017 clocked 50 years.   According to the Metro, the world’s first ATM was unveiled by Barclays at its Enfield branch in North London on June 27 1967.  As a tribute to the golden anniversary, Barclays transformed the ATM at its Enfield branch into gold, added a commemorative plaque and placed a red carpet in front for its users.   The original ATM was the brainchild of Scottish inventor Shepherd-Barron, and was commissioned by Barclays to create six cash dispensers, the first of which was installed at Enfield.  English actor Reg Varney, who starred in the British TV comedy show “On The Buses”, was the first person to withdraw cash from the new machine. The Lagos State Government, On Wednesday morning warned traders in the habit of displaying their wares on the road for sale beyond the confines of the market thereby causing traffic gridlock and other environmental nuisance to desist henceforth otherwise markets where such illegal activities are perpetrated would be shut down till further notice.   Akinwunmi Ambode, who handed down the warning at a meeting with leaders of Agbado Oke-Odo Market held at Lagos House in Ikeja, said the activities of the traders who are in such habit had reached a level which the State Government could no longer condone, hence the need for a final warning.   The Governor, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Tunji Bello, said aside causing avoidable and needless traffic, the traders were also in the habit of dumping their refuse on the road, thereby causing environmental and health hazards.  He said:  “This is just to come and deliberate on the Agbado Oke-Odo

Wednesday a video made the rounds on social media showing the leaking roof at the Murtala Muhammad International Airport (MMIA). The Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria FAAN has released a statement explaining why the roof was leaking. According to the agency, the leakage was as a result of ongoing repairs at the airport and that the repairs have been completed and the leakage has been stopped. Joy Bishara , 20, and Lydia Pogu , 19, two of the Chibok schoolgirls who were able to escape from Boko Haram in 2014, met with US President Donald Trump at the White House Wednesday, June 28. The duo and several other girls who escaped moved to the United States to complete school. With the help of a Christian nonprofit, others, they were able to attend boarding school in Virginia. Bishara and Pogu transferred their senior year and recently graduated from Canyonville Christian Academy. They will be attending Southeastern University in Florida in the fall. Suspected billionaire kidnapper, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike a.k.a. Evans, on Wednesday, filed a fundamental rights enforcement action before the Lagos Federal High Court in Lagos, urging the court to order the police to charge him to court or release him immediately. Joined as respondents in the said suit marked FHC/L/CS/1012/2017 are the Nigeria Police Force, Commissioner of Police, Lagos State and the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Lagos State Police Command.   In a fundamental rights enforcement suit filed on his behalf by a Lagos-based lawyer, Olukoya Ogungbeje, the suspected kidnapper is seeking for a court’s order directing the respondents to immediately charge him to court if there is any case against him in accordance with Sections 35 (1) (c) (3) (4) (5) (a) (b) and 36 of the Constitution.    He is on the alternative seeking for an order compelling the respondents to immediately release him unconditionally in the absence of any offence that will warrant his being charged
